What difference does this insulation upgrade make?

This upgrade delivers a significant improvement in thermal performance. A standard Powersheds uninsulated 19mm floor has a U-value of approximately 2.53 W/m²K, which improves to around 0.74 W/m²K when insulated.

Similarly, the roof improves from approximately 3.43 W/m²K down to around 0.67 W/m²K.

For the floor, rigid insulation boards are fitted between the pressure-treated timber bearers beneath the floorboards. A damp proof course (DPC) is installed below the bearers to help prevent moisture rising from the ground, and foil tape is used to seal any gaps, ensuring consistent insulation across the entire base.

For the roof, insulation boards are laid on top of the roof boards and sealed together with foil tape to create a continuous insulated layer. OSB boards are then fitted over the insulation for strength, before the EPDM rubber roof covering is applied as normal.

The boards are supplied in standard sizes, so some trimming may be required during installation to achieve a precise fit, particularly around edges and corners. This is a normal part of the process and ensures a neat, snug finish across both the floor and roof.

Once installed, the insulation is completely hidden from view, so your cabin keeps the same clean appearance while benefiting from a warmer, more energy-efficient interior.

For very small cabins or those used purely for storage, insulation may not be necessary. There may also be some size or design variations where the installation differs slightly.
