The log cabins come completely untreated, except the pressure treated floor bearers. The extremely precise machining of the logs, which is required to ensure the perfect fit, require the building to be treated after assembly rather than before. Treating the logs before you install the cabin may result in the components not fitting correctly as it can cause the timber to expand.  

Some components are okay to treat prior to installation, such as the pressure treated bearers, floor, and roof boards. In fact, there are some areas that will be much hard to treat annually, so try to get a few coats prior to assembly on to ensure the longevity of your building.  

Once the rest of your cabin is assembled you can treat it using any high quality, oil or solvent based preserver. We advise treating both the inside and outside of your cabin to maintain our 10 Year Guarantee on the timber. Take extra care to brush treatment into all wooden components inside and outside.  

We recommend a well-known brand such as Protek and provide a free, 5L container of Protek Wood Preserver ++ with every log cabin to get you started! You may require more than this for your log cabin, and we recommend a high-end brand such as Protek.

How much preserver you will need will depend on the size of your cabin, the preserver used, the method of application and the number of coats applied. Always refer to the suppliers’ directions on usage when assessing how much preserver you will need. 

Every log cabin purchased on the powersheds.com website or through an approved Power retailer comes with our free 10 Year Guarantee on the timber.  

Our 10 Year Guarantee covers timber against rot, decay, and insect infestation if the cabin is maintained in line with our maintenance guidelines which can be found on our website. 

In the unlikely event that a defect arises through proven timber failure as above, Power guarantees to make good or replace the timber or whole cabin in question.

We use 19mm timber for the floor, which is supported by pressure treated bearers which run perpendicular to the floorboards and support it every foot or so. This creates an incredibly strong and resilient floor, and these buildings have been used as gyms, art studios, in-home beauty centres, and even garages with no reported issues.

Please note, we’re unable to advise on a specific weight tolerance. 

Sheds and log cabins are becoming a more popular purchase option for homeowners, business and keen DIYers, however the differences can sometimes be a little confusing as the purpose of the building can often be the same! 

Our sheds are manufactured in prefabricated panels constructed from 28x44mm framing and utilizing 12mm cladding for the walls, floor and roof. Our cabins are manufactured as individual logs which are built up to create a sturdy structure with a timber thickness of approx. 44mm. 

While both style of building are provided as self-assembly kits, the log cabins do have more components as they do not contain prefabricated elements and take advantage of the strength an interlocking log style build provide.  

All Power Log Cabins are made with either 28mm or 44m thick, single or double tongue and groove respectively, interlocking logs. This impressively thick timber provides plenty of sound and heat insulation and makes the buildings suitable for a variety of functions, made even better due to the secure fit provided by the double tongue and groove logs. 

The roof and floor of your log cabin are made from 19mm boards and are supported by 58x44mm rounded framing. You’ll also receive 58x44mm pressure treated timbers to place under the floor (every foot or so) to provide a solid foundation for your build and re-enforce the floor.
